Stay in Kera Monastery 40 minutes, stay in Psychro 1½ hour, Stay in ceramics 20 minutes, stay in Tzermiado 1 hour and 15 minutes, Stay in Olive Oil Factory 30 minutes.
Our first stop is the historic Kera Kardiotissa Monastery, where nuns live and care for this sacred site. Here, you can admire the famous icon of the Virgin Mary, believed by many to be miraculous. The monastery also houses stunning 14th-century frescoes and numerous other icons, offering a glimpse into Crete’s rich religious heritage.
Next, we travel to the Lasithi Plateau, situated 850 meters above sea level and surrounded by the Dikti Mountains. This plateau is dotted with 18 traditional villages that preserve their centuries-old customs. You’ll see the iconic windmills and Venetian ditches, ingeniously built long ago to drain water from the land.
We then visit the village of Psychro, home of the famous Dikteon Cave. Psychro is also renowned for its handmade pottery, and you can visit a local workshop to see these beautiful ceramics being crafted.
Tzermiado, the main village of the plateau, is our next stop. Here, you can take a break, enjoy a delicious lunch in a traditional tavern, and admire the stunning natural scenery and charming local architecture.
On the way back, we stop at a traditional olive oil factory near the foothills of the Lasithi area. You will learn how olive oil is produced and taste extra virgin olive oil and local products before we return.
