Spinalonga served as a Venetian fortress and later as one of Europe’s last active leper colonies, closing in 1957. It gained international fame through Victoria Hislop’s bestselling novel “The Island” and is one of Crete’s most visited historical sites.
Spinalonga is accessible only by boat. Our tour includes coach transfer from Heraklion to Plaka or Elounda, from where a short boat ride takes you to the island.
Yes! The tour includes free time in Agios Nikolaos — a charming harbour town with the mysterious Lake Voulismeni — to explore, enjoy lunch or coffee by the lakeside.
Approximately 1.5–2 hours, guided through the Venetian walls, the leper colony buildings, and the iconic “Dante’s Gate” entrance.
