Armenistis Lighthouse – “Fanari”
Standing like a sentinel over the Armenistis area, the Armenistis Lighthouse, locally known as Fanari (“Lantern” in Greek), is a testament to Mykonos’ rich maritime history. Built in 1891, the tower rises 19 meters with a focal plane of 184 meters, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding sea and coastline.
To reach the lighthouse, we take the scenic road from Agios Stefanos, just 6.5 km from Mykonos Town, which provides some of the island’s most spectacular vistas. The mechanism of the lighthouse’s first lamp is on display at the Aegean Naval Museum, housed in a charming 19th-century building near Three Wells (Tria Pigadia) in central Mykonos.
From Armenistis, the views of the new port and the surrounding islands are breathtaking, making Tinos appear almost within reach. A visit here offers not only a glimpse into the island’s strategic maritime past but also an unforgettable perspective of Mykonos’ natural beauty.
