Rethymno Hinterland Private Experience! From Heraklion and Chania

This tour can start either from Heraklion or Chania city center every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

The search for authentic Crete begins when you board one of our cars, whereupon our knowledgeable driver will begin the beautiful journey to the heart of Rethymno.

Rethymno is the smallest of the four prefectures of Crete, but it hides many beauties, some of which we will show you in this tour in which you will taste, smell and above all feel during it.

Itinerary:

Our first stop will be at the Cave of Melidoni for a self-guidance. The cave of Melidonio is also called “Gerontospilios”. It was one of the most important religious caves, since in the Minoan era Talos, the bronze giant of Crete, was worshiped in the cave, who, according to mythology, was responsible for the safety and protection of the island from enemies. (needs about half an hour)

Following we will visit an olive grove where the farmers who take care of it will warmly welcome us. There you will have one hour olive oil tasting & training (paired with vegetarian snacks) and 30 minutes the independent tour inside the olive museum and the olive park. You will have the opportunity to see the centuries-old olive trees, some of them with a lifetime of more than 1500 years.

After leaving the bitter-sweet taste of the Olive oil we will continue with a visit at a nearby pottery workshop in Margarites where you will be guided in the facilities and have the opportunity to get your hands “dirty” with clay and test your skills in making ceramics (about 45minute).

Following we will give you one and a half hours for self-exploration of the colorful village of Margarites to sense the area and if you wish to enjoy a light meal or refreshments or souvenirs shopping in the local market.

And just like that happily and in a good mood we’ll start the way back and the tour will end full of beautiful memories.
